Back in June I had the pleasure of working with Vanessa of The Simpson Sisters and Oak Tree Barn. Vanessa hosts creative workshops around her kitchen table in Bristol and has exciting plans for the future involving her gorgeous barn conversion (honestly, I wanted to move in!) in Burrington, just outside the city.
I had come across Vanessa’s Instagram before and loved the sound of “kitchen table workshops” and her approach to exploring creativity. I then discovered Vanessa’s blog, which I highly recommend you check out, as it’s beautifully written and shares a refreshing perspective on finding joy in the simple things. Vanessa’s blog and brand have a focus on simplicity, creativity and contentment, so we set out to capture these in her Brand Story Shoot that we shot in both her home and the barn.
This shoot was one of my favourites yet; Vanessa is just a lovely, calming presence to be around and it really did not feel like work documenting her enjoying her creative pursuits, from baking biscuits to flower arranging and sewing to experimenting with watercolours. If you’d like to try your hand at a new creative endeavour but don’t feel sure you’d “be any good” (all of us do with something!) then I can’t think of a better environment in which to have a go than Vanessa’s kitchen – she will make you feel totally welcome and free to create in whatever way you enjoy! You’ll also get homemade cake, so it’s a no-brainer really! Stay in the loop about upcoming workshops on The Simpson Sisters Facebook page.
Here are just a few of the photos from Vanessa’s shoot, hope they make you feel inspired to try something crafty soon!
