Back in November 2016, when I was just weeks away from leaving my digital marketing job to go full-time with my photography business, and feeling somewhere between totally ecstatic and completely terrified, I went to my very first networking event. It was a TweetUp for wedding industry professionals run by Kirsten of Little Wedding Helper and it was really great. Kirsten and her team had held a photoshoot at the venue during the day, so it was decked out with sequin tablecloths, cascading floral arrangements and an amazing pink cake! I was also a big fan of the DIY Prosecco bar and delicious canapés! Anyway, as you can imagine when an introvert walks into a room full of strangers, I was nervous. Despite my butterflies, I managed to introduce myself to lots of wonderful people that evening and one of those people was Fiona of Riot Balloons.
Fiona made me feel really welcome straight away and we had a lovely chat about creativity, fulfilment and taking that leap to do what you love. Along with the equally fabulous Zoe of Bristol Vintage, who I also met at the TweetUp, we hatched a plan to do a styled wedding shoot together in the new year. Working with Fiona on our Beauty and the Beast inspired bridal shoot was a total dream; she has amazing vision and is one of the most conscientious and generous creatives I’ve been lucky enough to work with.
Fiona is an artist at heart, and this comes across in droves when you see her creative balloon installations for weddings, events and shop merchandising. I loved the rose gold gilding she did for the giant balloons on our styled shoot and she also often combines the balloons with natural elements – she’s doing a huge, immersive installation with a garden designer at the Chelsea Flower Show this year so keep an eye on the hashtag #chelseajungle to see what they create!
The sun shone on Fiona and I on the day of her Lifestyle Brand Portraits shoot in Bath, so we made the most and headed to the Royal Crescent where we enjoyed some beautiful backlight and sun flares!
Below are some of the highlights from Fiona’s brand shoot and also a few of her magical balloon work from our previous project together. If you’d like a daily dose of creative inspiration, be sure to follow Fiona on Instagram here!
